Palapa-B satellite program is the second-generation satellite programs made by Hughes Spaces and Communication Company in Indonesia, this time there are four-generation satellite Palapa-B HS-376 kinds of ordered to continuity of operations SKSD Palapa-A ended the period of operation. Palapa-B was increased to 24 transponder C-band and a wider coverage area to be able to reach all areas of ASEAN. This is based on estimates of domestic telecommunication needs for government use and needs of ASEAN countries based on the results of the Working Group of technical experts and the ASEAN economies in 1978.
Palapa-B1 and B2 was launched by the shuttle (STS) Challenger in June 1983 and February 1984, but differs with kesukesan Palapa-B1 at 180E, Palapa-B2 having problems at perigee motor ignition and should be brought back to Earth for repair. Palapa-B2 was recovered by special operation of a space shuttle flight and then repaired and relaunched with the naming of the Palapa-B2R (refurbish) with the Delta launch vehicle, 6925-8.
The presence of the Palapa-B2R eventually replace the Palapa-B1 at 108E and Palapa-B1 was purchased by PT. Pacific Satellite Nusantara (PT.PSN), making this the first non-commercial satellite Intelsat in Asia by changing its name to Pacific Palapa-1 [APS 98/99].
In 1987, the Palapa B2P created and placed in orbit 113E through the Delta 3290 launch vehicle. The satellite is managed by PERUMTEL and Indosat to then rented to a 3rd party both from domestic and abroad. Palapa-B2P (ex. Palapa-B3) and then end the period of operation in February 1996 and then purchased by the satellite operator from the Philippines namely Mabuhay Philippines Satellite Corporation (MPSC), which changed its name to AGILA-1.
Along with market developments, in 1992, Telkom launched Palapa-B4 placed on 188E to mengakomodokasi demand for satellite circuit which continues to grow in the ASEAN region. Palapa-B4 satellite launched by Delta II launch vehicle, 7925 from Kennedy Space Center (U.S.).

Palapa-D satellite program began in February 1975 by ordering two satellites at once (Palapa A1, A2) and its control station and 9 earth stations in Hughes (Boeing Satellite Systems). The process is also only takes 17 months just to build and launch the first satellite Palapa A series which is the fastest execution ever carried out by management and Boeing engineers.
Palapa-A antenna designed for transmitting power is concentrated into the Indonesian archipelago and also includes neighboring countries namely, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Availability of 12 transponders with an average capacity of 6000 voice channels or 12 channels of simultaneous television over the archipelago, six of which are used for telephony and one transponder filled the national television program, while the remaining were for backup.
Palapa-A1 successfully launched and operated on July 8, 1976 in orbit 83E are fully managed by national companies PERUMTEL (PT Telkom). Intermittent one year later ie on 11 March 1977, Palapa-A2, located at 77E orbit, launched from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States, as a reserve which also has 12 transponders and is ready to operate when the Palapa-A1 experience failure, or if market demand can no longer be accommodated by the Palapa-A1. Both satellite Palapa-A was successfully launched by Delta-2914 launch vehicle and has a relatively short life. Finally, years of service both prime Indonesian communications satellite ended in June 1985 and January 1988, and continued on a second-generation satellite program that is the Palapa-B.
